Working the shoulders on your next Headshot

Facebooktwitter

When creating an individual portrait, I often coach my clients to create unevenness in their shoulders. Don’t get me wrong, you’ll see some of my portrait or beauty images with square and symmetrical shoulders to the camera. However, if you’re not careful, your portrait can easily turn into a driver’s license photo. For a LinkedIN portrait or a website image, I want to create a different feel with the image. Uneven shoulders create energy and depth in the subject.

So the the next time you’re having your portrait created, sit in front of a mirror for a few minutes before your session and practice the following:

1)Shifting and raising one shoulder while dropping the other.

2)Roll one shoulder back and the other forward.

3)Cross both arms at the forearms and bring one shoulder up.

4)Place one hand on your hip while seated and watch what it does to your shoulders.

These are some simple techniques to greatly enhance your portrait.  Book your next portrait appointment with Carmel Studios Photography and I’ll coach you through your posing. You’ll get the best headshot you’ve ever taken, guaranteed. #nodriverslicensephotohere
