Use color to add POP to your portrait

A key element of photography is drawing the viewer’s attention to specific parts of the photograph. This can be done a variety of ways – some more obvious than others. For example vignettes are a commonly used method to direct the viewer’s focus. Negative space, leading lines are other examples. One of my favorite ways to accomplish this goal when it comes to professional portraits is through the use of color. By contrasting a darker background with a pop of color, the viewers eye goes exactly where I intended. As this example shows, my subject really stands out from the darker tone backdrop. When you prepare for your professional portrait or LinkedIN headshot, make sure to think about your wardrobe, not only as a means to express your personal brand but also to ensure your audience focuses on you and not the background.
